Are John McCain and Condoleezza Rice a Republican match made in heaven?

If after all the dust settles Barack Obama is chosen as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, what better choice could John McCain make than to select Condoleezza Rice as his running mate? Think of the advantages it would bring.
As secretary of state, Dr. Rice occupies a very high profile position. Few can deny her talents and accomplishments.
Secretary Rice has a Ph.D in political science from the University of Denver in Russian studies; she is fluent in Russian and competent speaker of several other languages; she has written or co-authored several books on the then Soviet Union; as an academic, she rose to become provost of Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., one of the country's most universities.
As a professor, Condi Rice caught the eye of one of the first President Bush's top advisers, Brent Snowcroft. She was mentored by other members of the Republican establishment and began her career as a White House aide.
When George W. Bush was running for president, she served as his foreign policy adviser and developed a close relationship with him and his family. She is a Bush loyalist, faithfully defending his policies, including the decision to go to war in Iraq.
Beginning as Bush's National Security adviser, she was appointed secretary of State in 2005, following the resignation of Colin Powell. She has handled this high-level assignment with the aplomb she brought to all of her other steps up the ladder. She is not easily ruffled, as her appearance before the 9/11 Commission made clear.
Condoleezza Rice was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 14, 1954. She was well aware, even at an early age, of the indignities of segregation and racism. One of her friends, Denise McNair, was killed in the vicious church bombing in July 1963 - one of four little girls killed in the church basement. The dramatic events of the civil rights movement swirled all around her.
However, the reaction of her parents was not to adopt activism, but to advise their daughter to overcome prejudice by excelling in all her endeavors. They paid for ballet and figure skating lessons and she was so adept musically that at one point she considered a career as a concert pianist.
Like Sen. Barack Obama, she made her way transcending racial definitions. But unlike Obama, with his international upbringing, she is was rooted in the traditional African-American experience.
So why would she be on John McCain's short list? In addition to her obvious qualifications, there is the matter of race, not to mention gender and age. As the primary campaign has made clear, America is far from a post-racial society. An Obama candidacy will have to deal with that unpleasant reality. By nominating an African American, the Republicans cannot only shield themselves from the accusation that they are attacking Obama for hidden racial reasons; they might even cut into his strong support among African American voters.
An additional bonus is that the GOP would have a woman on the ballot, creating an appeal for a group that in the past has leaned toward the Democratic side. Finally, a Rice candidacy could help alleviate concern about McCain's age. While he is grandfatherly 72, she is a youthful appearing 54.
There are other benefits to a Rice vice presidential nomination. She has strong ties to the Bush family and the Republican establishment. The maverick McCain needs to shore up his support in this area. She also agrees with him on Iraq, bound to be a central issue in the election. She also has very strong national security credentials that add to what McCain views as his special strength.
As the Republican convention approaches and speculation grows about McCain's running mate, expect Rice's name to appear on the V.P. list - especially if Obama is the Democrat's choice.
If she is chosen, then history will be made one way or the other. We will have either the first African-American president or the first African-American - and female - vice president.
What an interesting election this could be!

In only 2 years....

Part 1

In just two years . Remember the election in 2006?

Thought you might like to read the following:

A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;

2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

Quote of the Day........"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.
I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barack Obama

Part 2: Taxes.

Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.

www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html

Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008

Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500

Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500

Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000

Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them
and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say
they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories
above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman;
you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

PART 3:

Are you really Republican?

A good story you can tell even your youngest child and they will know the difference between a liberal Democrat and a conservative Republican.

I remember the time that Catherine, one of my daughter's friends when she was little, told me that she wanted to be President one day. Both of her parents are liberal Democrats and were standing there with us - and I asked Catherine, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?'

Catherine replied, 'I would give houses to all the homeless people.'

'Wow, what a worthy goal you have there, Catherine.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you are President to do that, you can come over to my house and clean up all the dog poop in the back yard and I will pay you $5. Then we can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $5 to use for a new house.'

Catherine, who was about 4, thought that over for a second, while her mom looked at me, and Catherine replied, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and clean up the dog poop and you can pay him the $5.'

Welcome to the Republican Party, Catherine!

Candidate for State Senate earns endorsement of state construction organization

SPRINGFIELD,

OH (05/15/08) - Associated Builders and Contractors of Ohio has added its name to the long list of organizations supporting Chris Widener, candidate for the Ohio State Senate.

"ABC is dedicated to creating a business climate of merit, allowing contractors to run their businesses on the fundamental principles framed by our nation's founding fathers," stated ABC of Ohio President Braden Black. Associated Builders and Contractors is the largest construction association devoted to the merit shop contractor.

"As a small business owner myself, I understand how intrusive government prevents job growth," Widener said. "As a State Representative I have worked to create a job friendly environment in Ohio. As a State Senator I will continue to fight to bring quality jobs to our area."

Widener is a licensed architect and has owned his own firm for 18 years. Prior to starting his own business he worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a civil service architect and as the installations first full-time Historic Preservation Officer.

Widener currently represents Madison County and portions of Clark and Greene Counties in his fourth term as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. In his service, he passed a 21% income tax cut, provided much needed prescription drug coverage for 1.4 million Ohio seniors without any additional costs to taxpayers, and helped pass a state budget with the lowest growth in spending in nearly half a century.

A message from the Deputy Chair...

One week after admitting to immoral and unethical conduct that has crippled the Attorney General's office and brought shame to the state of Ohio, Marc Dann stubbornly refuses to resign.

So we created a new web site - www.dumpdann.com - to educate Ohioans about the mismanagement and cronyism that compelled us to lead the way in calling for the Attorney General's resignation.

Marc Dann's conduct has been disgraceful. So visit www.dumpdann.com and join us by signing our online petition calling on Marc Dann to resign now.

Silly Obama

Obama was recently asked about his hard fought and lengthy campaign against Sen. Clinton. Obama responded by saying " Its been so long, I've been to all 57 states."

Now thats Change you can believe in.

Hillary just doesn't know when to quit

WHY HILLARY WON'T GET OUT

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

Published on FOXNews.com on May 8, 2008.

Printer-Friendly Version

Bill and Hillary Clinton have always believed that they’re very different than the rest of us. Over their more than 30 years in politics together, they’ve learned one important and consistent lesson: that rules don’t matter. Rules don’t apply to them. Rules are for other people. Rules can be bent, changed, manipulated.

And that philosophy has worked very well for them.

So it’s particularly ironic that they are now turning to the Democratic Party Rules Committee to try and steal the presidential nomination that Hillary has already definitively lost to Barack Obama in the popular vote, the delegate count, and the total number of states.

Now she’ll try to get the Democratic bosses to rig it for her. If the rules don’t work, change them.

Under the guise of justice and fair play, Hillary Clinton is, in effect, asking the Rules Committee to rule that the party’s rules should be ignored — the same rules that the Rules Committee enacted and that Hillary and all of the other democrats supported without dissent. But that was then and now is now.

Hillary wants the Florida and Michigan votes to be seated, even though it would still make no difference in the outcome. She can’t win. After her embarrassing near loss in Indiana and her sound trouncing in North Carolina, Hillary Clinton is a fatally wounded candidate. She’s out of money, out of votes, and out of options.

But she won’t give up. She’ll never go home until the day that Obama actually reached the magic number of delegates.

Why?

Because she and her husband both believe that she is entitled to the nomination, entitled to the presidency. So they’re waiting for the inevitable signal that it will, in fact, be hers.

No matter that neither the voters nor the party leaders want her. No matter that she has to spend more than $11 million of her own money to keep her campaign afloat.

According to the Clintons, the nomination should be hers. She’s earned it. She’s ready. She wants it. She and Bill are sure that she’d be a great candidate.

So that’s why they’re waiting. Because there’s one other lesson they’ve both learned — that over time, anything can change. And they’re waiting for any break that time might bring.

They’ve see it before. When they were worried about her criminal liability in the Whitewater mess, they held their ground. Eventually, as the years went on, Jim McDougal, the chief witness against them, died of a heart attack in prison. When the special prosecutor was after her for perjury, she learned how to delay and then get by off on a technicality. Lost in the dust were the allegations of Hillary’s perjury. Once more, time was kind to her.

It was the same story during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. At first it seemed that Bill would be quickly thrown out of the White House, but two years later, although impeached, he was still incredibly popular. Time and patience had brought control of events back to the Clintons.

When they left the White House in utter disgrace over their ethical lapses and greed, they were under attack from even the friendliest of liberal media. But years of keeping their heads low, working hard at getting along with people in the Senate, turning to charitable works (with a little help from George W. Bush) and helping the party regulars erased the sordid images. Memories of pardons sold for campaign and library contributions, their scoundrel lobbyist brothers, and the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of ‘gifts’ that were solicited from people who wanted favors from the White House disappeared. Once again, time healed all.

Now, although seemingly out of time, they are still waiting. Something could happen to change things in just a minute.

They’re patiently waiting for that minute.

But beyond their belief in Hillary’s inalienable right to the nomination and Hillary’s inevitability, there are two more factors that are keeping her in.

One is a combination of Hillary’s incredible stubbornness and Bill’s growing arrogance. They both believe that no one, absolutely no one tells them what to do. No one is going to force them – a former president and a senator — to do anything. So the more people tell them that Hillary should quit the race, the more determined they are that she should stay in.

And finally, there seems to be an uncharacteristic absence of a reality base in Hillary’s thinking. Normally, she is a no-nonsense pragmatic politician who understand when she’s up and when she’s not. But lately she seems to ignore everything that’s in front of her except the supportive cheering of the partisan crowds and the certitude of Bill Clinton.

The proof of this is that she has lent a total of $11.6 million to her campaign. The Clintons are not people who part with a dime very easily. For them to fork over that much money to a failing campaign already in deep debt is the clearest statement that they are out of touch. Even after she won Pennsylvania — by only 12 delegates — there was no mathematical way for her to win the nomination. But she then poured another $6.4 million into the campaign coffers.

The Clintons are still waiting for a miracle that isn’t going to happen. They’re hoping that over time something big will derail Obama (no doubt they’re still frantically looking for that something).

And they’re stubbornly refusing to go home. And they’re desperately hoping to make sure the rules don’t count for them.

When the reality becomes unavoidable and it is clear that Hillary has to concede the nomination in 2008. Well, there’s always 2012 or 2016 or 2020 or …

These folks aren’t going away.
